Exodus 19 says, "You will be for me a kingdom of priests."
Some missionary friends of ours have sought to "go into the utter most parts of the world" to carry forth the light of truth to those that live in darkness and despair.
One such occasion in 2007, these missionaries have entered into Russia with members who traveled despite asthmatic bronchitis, travel difficulties, and below freezing temperatures. Listen to what some of these fellow believers encountered in their journey to bring Bibles to Russian orphans and what is known as "Reindeer people"..."In Inta we worked with Lyuba who ministers to orphans. We took fruit for the children, soemthing they seldom get....on another occasion, we crossed a frozen lake by snowmobile to a remote village to visit a school where only 7 children attended. There, we shared the gospel and gave gifts. They were so happy since they were from poor families...seeds were sown through it all and the Christians encouraged."
These very dear people are led by a husband and wife team who travel to Russia to minister to the poor, hurting, and unbelieving...the orphans who long to know the love of Christ through their very self-less dedication to serving others less fortunate.
In order for one to fully discover the spirit nature that lies within, you must overcome the physical nature that seeks to gratify the brokeness of the sinful nature.
People soley focused upon their life and the acceptance of others, in essence lose a part of their soul for they have gained their reward in such approval. Those hating the pleasures that this world brings discovers quickly that there is truly life beyond the illusions of the material and instead understand fully what Christ meant when he said, "There hath no greater love than this, that he lay down his life for his friend." Serving the needs of others for the purpose of loving Christ, brings humility and God's will above self gain. Serving the world brings self-preservation, power, popularity, temporary satisfaction of lustful gratification, and an internal emptiness that reminds us we are more than a physical being. We are a soul that longs to be purified, whole, and a reflection of the living Christ.
Once a friend had a rental home that was damaged and left in a highly unsanitary state when the renters moved out unexpectedly. Because this person had financial obligations and relied on this home as a source of income, they had to find new renters in a short amount of time. However, the place was far from being in a show quality state. It was then that travel for several hours to the location of this property had to be actioned to begin the cleaning and repair process that took not hours but a two week process.
There were times, that frustration over the lack of respect the renters had toward the friend's home and even themselves leaving the place as they did without any consideration of returning to clean or even pay for the repairs.
Yet God used this process to speak as to what true servitude meant in light of His Word and ministry to others. Those long hours when physical exhaustion took over, wondering if the next renters would do the same, God said, "You are not doing this for them, but for me." "Not my will, but thine be done."
In that moment, the reality comes that we can either seek to be servants or selfish. We can be vessels of God's presence or get by with minimal effort towards loving others.
As a basket of lemon-colored flowers were hung on the hook outside the front door to welcome the next renters, there fell a sense of peace and inner joy and newfound revelation. God, Himself, through our times of crisis and confusion, storms and chaos, brings those moments of the light breaking through the skies, giving us a sense of the glory that awaits us up ahead. We then realize that as we seek to help prepare for the blessing that others will experience, He does the same through the many unseen acts of those earth angels in our lives.
What does the Bible say about service to others?
"Bear one anothers burden and in doing so fulfill the law." Galations 6:2 "Let no men seek his own good but the good of his neighbor." I Cor. 10:24
